Jasper tells us that he in the past has jokingly said that he wished his entire life could be online as he noticed that he feels more at ease in digital than live environment. But be careful what you wish for. Jasper explains in a touching way that keeping distance from others in general can be okay, but that a basic need for physical closeness with significant others remains.

The series ( ‘Locked in’, Portraits of Psychiatric Patients) are the result of a collaboration between our Assistant Professor Anouk Keizer (https://www.uu.nl/staff/akeizer), Barbara Montagne (GGz Centraal) and Lieza Röben, funded by ZonMw. The short clips aim to capture the impact of the COVID-19 social distancing regulations on patients with a mental disorder from their perspective. If we want to provide support to this group it is crucial that we see and understand the effects of social distancing on this group. The best way of doing this is by giving patients a face and a voice. We hope that these short movies facilitate a community wide discussion on the importance of discussing touch and touch deprivation in the context of psychiatry.
